Prof. T A Chowdhury was graduated from Dhaka medical College, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1960, securing Honours in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. He studied and worked in U.K. from 1963 to 1965 and during this period got his FRCS from Edinburgh and MRCOG from London.
After returning UK, he joined as Associate Prof. of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka in 1966 and subsequently worked as professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Chittagong Medical College.
He joined as Prof. of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine & Research at Dhaka in 1972 and continued in that capacity till 1994. From 1987 to 1994, he was also the Director of that prestigious Institute.
During this period he had enormous contribution in the field of postgraduate education and training in Bangladesh, particularly in the field of Obstetrics & Gynaeclogy. He was the Secretary of the Bangladesh College of Physicians for 8 years and President for 2 years.
For his contribution in the field of postgraduate Education in Nepal, the King of Nepal decorated him with “Gorkha Dakshin Bahu” medal.
He is the former president of South Asian Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons, Obstetrics & Gynaecology Society of Bangladesh. He was the Vice President of Asia Oceania Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Since his clinical career he devoted himself for the development of infertility management of Bangladesh.
He is the teacher of teacher in the field of Gynaecology.
He was examiner in the Postgraduate Examinations in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in Nepal, Pakistan, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. He was also Examiner for the MRCOG Examination in U.K in 1996.
Prof. Chowdhury is the founder President of Fertility and Sterility Society of Bangladesh (FSSB) and the Chairperson, Editorial board of Bangladesh Journal of Fertility and Sterility (BJFS).
