Prof. Firoza Begum is a reputed Obstetrician & Gynecologist of Bangladesh. In her credentials are wide clinical experiences and a brilliant academic carrier. She graduated from Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka University, in 1979 and obtained a fellowship (FCPS) in Obs and gynae in 1987. She joined the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine & Research (IPGMR) in 1988 as Assistant Professor& became Professor of Feto Maternal Medicine in 2006. Under her direct guidance and leadership, the Fetomaternal medicine wing was established in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in 2004 and she became the Founder Chairman of the Feto Maternal Medicine department of BSMMU in 2018.
Society activities- She is the Founder President of the FETO MATERNAL Medicine society of Bangladesh, Immediate Past Secretary General of OGSB, Vice-President Bangladesh Society of Medical Genetics, Scientific Secretary Fertility & Sterility Society of Bangladesh. Treasurer Endometriosis society of Bangladesh, Treasurer Fertility preservation Society. Ex Editor – Bangladesh J of Obstetrics &Gynaecology
She is a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction & Embryology (ESHRE)& Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM).
As a renowned infertility specialist, she is running an IVF center successfully since 2008. She keeps herself engaged in teaching postgraduate students, conducting research by herself, and supervising the research works of the postgraduate students. She attended different conferences & workshops both at home & abroad as an invited speaker. Her field of interest is pre-eclampsia- eclampsia, birth defects, and assisted reproductive technology. She has more than 50 publications in reputed national and international journals. Through her knowledge, experience, farsightedness, and leadership, she has been playing a key role in the improvement of maternal health in Bangladesh.
